Organic waste - a brief description
In our area, by “organic waste” one generally means “vegetable waste for composting.” Since one requires homogenously structured material for the optimal composting process, a shredding system is needed which “doesn’t get blocked.” Fruits and vegetables tend to produce a mushy pulp when sufficiently ripe or when fermenting, while shrub cuttings, reeds, grass, straw etc. have long-fibre structures which hardly allow any mixing.
Holzmag PreciCut and Holzmag PowerCut shredding technology for processing organic waste
The Holzmag shredding does not allow any blockages of material in the sieve or in the cutting section, and thus prevents clogging. Holzmag shredding technology is thus also suitable for the processing of organic waste. Both the single-shaft system with the PreciCut machine and the double-shaft system in the high performance version with the PowerCut machine are used in this field.
Processing of damp organic waste with Holzmag dryer technology
Deposited substances such as road-sweeper waste, a mixture of leaves, flowers, pollen and grasses, are prepared for incineration by shredding and drying. Here, the Holzmag dryer technology with its fluidized bed dryer comes to the fore. During the harvest season straw, hay, reeds, maize, rice, grapevines, olive wood, and many other kinds of waste are produced, which can be used for energy recovery. Palm leaves, fruit skins or nut shells also contain energy. The preparation to make fuels is varied. Often small installations consisting of a shredder and a briquetter are the best solution to produce a fuel on site, particularly if solar energy can be used for the drying.
Preparation of quantities of mono-waste using the Holzmag pelletizing technology
Larger quantities of mono-waste such as rice, straw, maize, reeds, bamboo etc. can be conditioned and fed to the pelletizing unit, and marketed as energy-rich material. For this preparation, Holzmag has the equipment available for doing the shredding, pelletizing, briquetting, BRIC pelletizing and drying processes.
